JAY RUBIN

Jay Rubin, 19, is a sophomore, a native of Portland, Oregon and an American studies major. Next semester he plans to study in Kenya. One day he would like to work for himself and have the freedom to trade off writing short and long fiction pieces with covering his own nonfiction assignments, “which would ideally be of an idiosyncratic and peripherally political (aka ‘cultural’) bent.” From writing essays, he said, he has picked up some of Professor Morrow’s opinions. “I think he’s big on disciplining yourself on paper, figuring out exactly what your game is, and then pushing it to its limit, while staying within the general boundaries you set up for yourself,” Rubin wrote.
